Migraine is neurological disorder that is caused by
over excitability of specific areas of brain. It is not clear what happens in
brain to start a migraine outburst, however, we know about some factors thought
to influence migraine – termed as triggers. These triggers include hormonal
fluctuations, environmental stimuli like weather, light and sound, certain
smells, foods, alcohol, poor sleep and high stress.
It is a fact that there is no specific cure for
migraine; its treatment is only aimed at reducing the frequency and stopping
individual headaches. However, the frequency and intensity of headache can be
reduced by avoiding certain triggers.
Take proper sleep:
Poor sleep may trigger migraine. By denying yourself a
proper sleep, you stop your mind to have a clean-up operation that removes
toxic materials from brain. Therefore, it is highly recommended for migraine
patients to have a proper sleep at regular intervals.
Avoid harsh weather
conditions:
Harsh weather conditions like too heat and cold may
cause a migraine attack. Depending upon what starts a headache – heat or cold-
a migraine patient should avoid exposure to conditions that brings pain to
them. It is hard to avoid such weather conditions especially when one needs to
stay, work or travel in open environments however its affects can be off-set by
dressing up appropriately.
What you eat? :
Consumption of certain foods like alcohol and
chocolate is thought to be among migraine triggers. People with migraine
definitely need to avoid foods causing them headache.

it is also important to consider how you eat. Any unhealthy eating pattern may
not only ruin your general health, it can also bring you migraine. Any
disruption in eating pattern may cause blood sugar fluctuations that in turn
may sets up a migraine attack.
An eating habit of having food at right time with
appropriate intervals may boast your health and can build a shield against
migraine.
Take supplements:
Inclusion of supplements in your daily diet in-take
may help you to curb sudden outburst of migraine attack. Magnesium supplements
are thought to be linked with migraine prevention; however, it is advisable to
consult your physician to make any such decision.
Analyze your working pattern:
Some people have to sit a long before computers as a
part of their jobs. This long exposure before computer screens may unduly
stress their neck muscles which may trigger migraine to them. With a routine of
daily exercise and avoiding non-stop working by taking appropriate breaks may
help them to prevent a migraine attack. Message at neck and head may help such
people to subside the pain of migraine.
Drink beverages with
caffeine:
Many headache medications contain caffeine as a key
ingredient. In case you just got headache, a cup of tea or coffee might help
you to get rid of it.
Avoid bright light and
sound:
Some migraine patients are sensitive to bright light
and high noise. If it is the case with you, you need to avoid exposure to a
sudden outburst of bright light or sound. A slight negligence may give you
hours of migraine suffering.
