Since
centuries turmeric has been widely used in Subcontinent as a medicine and a
part of daily cooking. This ancient herb is used as a popular cure to address
several health related issues. People of Subcontinent believe that turmeric
provides a shield against infections and therefore is widely used as an
anti-septic on wounds and injuries. It is not just anti-septic protection, the usage of turmeric brings several health related benefits, therefore, it is widely used in Ayurvedic medicines.
Only
now, science started establishing that turmeric provides effective shield
against number of diseases. It protects cardiovascular system, supports healthy
cholesterol levels and reduces free radicals. New research also highlights
anti-aging character of turmeric where it helps skin look young and smooth by
possibly reducing the free radicals. Is it time to include this herb in your
daily beauty protocol?
Turmeric
protects skin:
Recently,
research has revealed anti-oxidant character of turmeric. It has been rated
among spices that contain highest levels of anti-oxidant. These anti-oxidants protect
the integrity of skin by controlling the free radicals that destroy texture and
elasticity of skin.
Turmeric
skin protection doesn’t limit to preventing free radicals. Far from it,
research shows turmeric enhances elastin in the body that along with collagen
makes body smooth and pliable. Turmeric does this by controlling a key enzyme –
elastase that inhibits elastin from forming.
Turmeric
makes you feel young:
True
youthfulness comes from both mental and physical well being. Unless, one is not
feeling young, the required energy, vibrancy and emotional well-being will
remain elusive with consequences for fighting against aging.
Research
has shown effects of turmeric on mood pointing to the possibility of soothing
compounds to do the trick. Further research is underway to establish a link
between depression reduction and turmeric usage. However, some initial results
showed benefits of using turmeric to relieve depression.
