Big
Pharma must be getting seriously worried by the results of recent studies
testifying to the phenomenal healing power of this wonder plant.
In
order to protect their profits, the pharmaceutical industry has long been
lobbying against legalization of cannabis using their powerful influences in
Washington.
The
worries of big pharma are twofold, firstly, decriminalization of medical and
recreational cannabis sweeps the nation and first time in the history of US its
popularity witnessed a new height – 61% say they support marijuana according to
a recently held survey.
This
national scenario has turned the tide and despite big Pharma’s crony lawmakers’
efforts, public attitude is softening towards marijuana and governments are
forced to decriminalize the weed.
what gives Big Pharma nightmares is the results of various scientific studies showing cannabis can treat a number of human health conditions without dangerous
side-effects of prescribed pills. A survey conducted by the Center for
Addictions Research of BC found, of 473 adult therapeutic cannabis users 87% of
respondents gave up prescription medications, alcohol, or other drugs in favor
of cannabis. The results show that adults under 40 were likely to give up all
these of three for medical cannabis. A very startling finding of the survey,
that will give big Pharma big nightmares, is that 80% of respondents reported
substituting cannabis for prescription drugs.
With US is facing an painkiller epidemic, Opioid painkillers and heroin have driven overdose deaths to a point where they are now leading cause of injuries in the US. These
results indicate a very promising trend of people moving away from dangerous and
deadly substances in favor of wonder plant that never caused an overdose
death.
Another
study conducted by Arizona State University researchers found marijuana use has
no negative effect on some common measure of health, including lung function,
systematic inflammation, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, body weight, blood
sugar and dental health.
To
the worry of big Pharma, results show that marijuana use was associated with
better health outcomes in some domains. "Findings showed that cannabis use
was associated with slightly better metabolic health (smaller waist
circumference, lower body mass index, better lipid profiles, and
improved glucose control)," the study determined.
With
legalization of the weed, we are witnessing a surge in studies to investigate
effects of cannabis use on human health. More and more evidence show that cannabis is a
phenomenal healer that can cure a number of human health conditions. The Big Pharma's hefty spending for lobbying against decriminalization of marijuana would not bear any fruits, as emerging evidence would draw more and more public support.
